About ACCESS Distance Learning

The Alabama ACCESS Distance Learning Initiative was launched on November 1, 2004. The program was designed to provide an infrastructure to deliver equitable, quality learning opportunities for all citizens of Alabama. Under the Distance Learning program, Alabama public high school students have access to advanced diploma and remedial courses, and a wide array of elective options not available in any one school.

ACCESS Distance Learning Accreditation

ACCESS Distance Learning is accredited by the Alabama Department of Education.

ACCESS Distance Learning Programs

The ACCESS program takes two forms: Web-Based Instruction (WBI), and Interactive Video-Conferencing Instruction (VCI).

Web-based courses are asynchronous, and utilize multimedia materials and an e-teacher. Participating Alabama state schools may offer these courses at any time during the normal school day. In these courses, students work individually at computers during the school day, and the e-teachers grade assignments, check e-mails, and send correspondence to students at night.

Interactive Video-Conferencing courses are synchronous courses taught at a designated time. These courses include real-time instruction with two-way audio and video, taught by a certified e-teacher. Students enrolled in these courses receive instruction at a distance from a teacher who is actively teaching the same class to students at a physical location.

ACCESS Distance Learning Admissions

Alabama students must register for ACCESS through their school counselor. For more information on the school’s admission requirements, contact ACCESS directly.

  1. Help me, please. I need to know if a child has got suspended or expelled from a high school but was a minor then he is 18, now can he go back to public school or go to school online. How can you determine what grade he will be in ? Can he get his diploma online or at a public school?
