About Arkansas Virtual High School

The Arkansas Virtual High School is a pilot project funded by the Arkansas Department of Education. The purpose of the Arkansas Virtual High School is to provide an online alternative learning environment for the students of Arkansas’ public schools who have difficulty completing traditional high school coursework. Prospective students may be eligible for the program due to schedule conflicts, extenuating circumstances, and other factors that impede the usual progress through grades 9-12.

Arkansas Virtual High School is founded on the belief that online student success is only possible with continuous communication. Each instructor outlines the expectations for work and the submissions required each week. Students, site coordinators, and instructors maintain regular contact in order to maintain desirable progress.

Arkansas Virtual High School Programs

Arkansas Virtual High School provides traditional high school courses for students, in the framework of a standard educational path. In most cases, courses take a traditional semester, just as in the regular classroom. Some courses have assessments that test prior knowledge. If students do not possess the prior knowledge necessary for any given course, they may have trouble succeeding in the Virtual High School. It is possible for students to work faster in some classes, but they may not progress at a slower rate than the course schedule mandates.

Arkansas Virtual High School Admissions

Any private or public school student in grades 9-12 that is a resident in an affiliated school district is eligible for the program. Students may apply for admission for spring or fall semesters. At this time, Arkansas Virtual High School can provide a maximum of 2 classes per student, although future expansion of class availability is planned. Registration is performed online.
