iGrad

The iGrad program (formerly SOAR Alaska) is provided by the Galena City School District to help support the academic needs of students who have dropped out of school, and need an alternative approach to earning their high school diploma. Students in iGrad take online courses, receive teacher support, and learn from the comfort and safety of their home. The internet and a computer become the iGrad classroom, while highly qualified certified teachers provide ongoing individual support to ensure that every student receives the best opportunities for success. iGrad is free for all high school students in Alaska.

About iGrad

All iGrad courses comply with the Alaska state curriculum guidelines. Most offerings are “credit recovery” courses that start with a pre-test to determine what skills students already know, while the rest of the course is based around the skills they still need to master. Students who earn the required credits necessary for graduation and pass all three sections of the Alaska High School Graduation Qualifying Exam are awarded a diploma through the Galena City School District.

Classes can be done any time of day, any day of the week from the comfort of home, and students work at their own pace. Each student is assigned to a contact teacher, who helps guide them in selecting appropriate courses and provides the encouragement to stay on track for graduation. Contact teachers help monitor progress and ensure that students are receiving the support they need to succeed.
