Richard McKenna Charter High School is an Idaho public charter high school. The school serves the needs of approximately 50 at-risk students in grades 9-12 through its on-site program in Mountain Home, Idaho, and over 700 regular education and at-risk students in Idaho through its online programs. Tuition is free for all Idaho high school students under age 21.

About Richard McKenna Charter High School

The mission of Richard McKenna Charter High School is to help students become self-reliant by teaching them how to think, learn, communicate, and respect one another. The online provides offers a variety of learning tools to help meet the needs of primarly disabled or at-risk Idaho students. Richard McKenna offers both independent study and summer school programs to its students.

Richard McKenna Charter High School Programs

In order to graduate with a diploma, students must earn 46 semester credits at least 6 of which are earned through Richard McKenna. Richard McKenna grants high school course credit for college courses earned at approved accredited colleges at a rate of a one year high school course for each semester college course completed, regardless of the number of credit hours the semester college course is worth. For example, a student who completes English 101–a one semester course worth three college credit hours–would earn one year’s worth of high school English, or two semester credits.

Independent study courses begin every Monday between the third week in August and the second week in March. Courses are nine weeks long. Students may work as fast as they want, but not as slow as they want; they must meet strict assignment deadlines. Most of the courses have multimedia features, but still require extensive reading
